At the beginning of 2023 I had the honor of working together with the Rangers of the Quito Water Protection Fund – FONAG, in a workshop that combined artistic and therapeutic photography to reveal their deepest motivation to protect the water sources and the highlands of Quito, the capital of Ecuador.
The group of FONAG park rangers worked for two months with their unique gaze, applying the therapeutic use of photography to reveal their emotional world. Their photographs are a portrait of the light reflected in the moors.
Such is the case of Alto Pita near the Cotopaxi volcano, Antisana, Cerro Urco, Papallacta, Atacazo and San Francisco de Cruz Loma. These places are contained in the photobook they created as a result of this visual process.
This photobook preserves a voice of concern and anguish for the care of the land, but also of gratitude to nature. It is a document that we hope will serve to raise awareness about what it means to live in a city like Quito. This document stands as a voice of reflection to appreciate the water that reaches our homes and, above all, to reflect on the use we make of it.
The book was presented on July 27, 2023 at 10:00 am at the Botanical Garden of Quito. This publication is available at Fonag’s issu account.
